General Information
Position will begin on or about January 1, 2012 and is expected to continue at least until September 30,
2014. This is a grant/contract supported position and continuation thus is dependent on the availability
of sponsor funding. Extended overnight travel and camping at remote field sites under potentially
adverse conditions is involved (2-3 weeks per month).
Job Description
Work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision. Assist in implementing native fish
conservation studies in the lower Colorado River basin. Operate motor vehicles including standard shift
and four-wheel drive, and small watercraft. Travel and camp at remote field sites for extended
overnight stays under potentially adverse conditions, especially of summer heat. Collect and identify
aquatic biota, obtain environmental samples, and record data. Methods include but are not limited to
boat and backpack electrofishing, netting, and telemetry (acoustic and radio). Assist in data analysis,
interpretation, and presentation including extensive use of ArcGIS, MS Excel, MS Word, MS Powerpoint
and MS Access. Perform general office clerical and laboratory duties.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor degree in biology or a closely related field or three years related laboratory or field research
experience, or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable
knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Experience driving manual transmission and 4-wheel
drive vehicles with trailer. Applicant must show proof of authorization to work in the United States,
have a clean driving record and possess or be willing to obtain an Arizona driver’s license.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with small watercraft operation and maintenance, scientific writing, stream, river, and
reservoir sampling, and computer software as listed above is preferred.

Native Fisheries Technician
Salary: $10.99 – $17.41/hr

Position title, agency/location: Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife Resources is seeking to fill four (4) Wildlife Technician I positions. These are nine-month positions without benefits available in Moab, Utah. The Starting date is April 4 and will continue through the first week of November of 2011. Consideration for alternate begin/end dates will be given if applicant is actively pursuing a degree.
Responsibilitiess: Assist with various field projects involving native and endangered species of fish on the Green, Colorado, and San Juan rivers. Primary duties include monitoring of native and nonnative fish populations, using fish collection techniques such as seining, raft mounted electrofishing, and trammel-netting, and various other related tasks. Following field trips, successful applicants will responsible for ensuring the field crew cleans and maintains equipment, and prepares for future trips. Applicants MUST be agreeable to mechanical removal and disposition of nonnative fish species. Project technicians will also be responsible for data collection, organization.
Qualifications: Applicants must be willing to work a flexible schedule under harsh and adverse field conditions and travel/camp while conducting fieldwork. Applicants must be willing and capable of performing job that includes physically taxing tasks and working outdoors in hot and/or rainy/cold weather. Field trips range from day trips to ten-day trips in remote canyon locations. Applicants are required to be over 18 years of age, possess an ability to work well with others. Preference may be given to applicants with a degree in biological sciences, ecology, zoology, wildlife or fisheries management, and boating experience including whitewater rafts and Jon boats w/outboards. In addition electrofishing experience, the ability to work independently and mechanical aptitude. Housing is NOT provided although meals, tent, and dry bags are supplied during fieldwork. Work is regularly conducted during extreme heat and adverse weather.
