Job Characteristics: Assist Native Aquatics Biologists in data collection, analysis and report writing. Conduct surveys, trammel netting, seining, electrofishing etc. Data entry, analysis, and technical report writing. Attend assigned meetings regarding native species. Assist principle investigators with the research of threatened and endangered fishes. Hire and supervise seasonals and volunteers. Other duties as assigned.
Duties:
  • Assist in recovery activities toward the four endangered Colorado River fish species in accordance with Upper Colorado River Endangered Fish Recovery Program & the San Juan River Recovery Implementation Program.
  • Conduct surveys, trammel netting, seining, electrofishing etc. in remote river locations; Native Aquatics sampling.
  • Find, gather and collect information or data. Data entry, analysis, and technical report writing.
  • Operate sampling gear & equipment.
  • Pre-season gear preparation, organization, and maintenance. Ongoing maintenance and repair of sampling equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Preference: Preference will be given to applicants with a bachelor's degree in Fisheries, Wildlife, Natural Resources or other related field. Additional preference may be given to applicants with the following skills/abilities: 1) Whitewater boating and whitewater safety 2) Motor boat operation and maintenance. 3) Maintenance of sampling equipment, inflatable boats, or outboard engines 4) Scientific field survey experience 5) Experience with electrofishing, netting, and trapping fish 6) Fish identification for Colorado River basin species in adult and juvenile forms 7) Back country safety or first responder training
